Operation Christmas Child

More than 6 million children felt the joy of receiving a Christmas present last year as Samaritan’s Purse distributed shoe boxes filled with gifts in about 95 countries wrecked by war, poverty, and disaster.  This was made possible by millions of individuals, churches, and groups that prepared, collected, and processed box gifts.

OCTOBER 2011

Operation Christmas Child:  Yes, once again it is time to think about filling a shoe box for children to give them hope and know that someone cares.  This is one way you can make a difference in a young person’s life.  Since 1993, this Samaritan’s Purse project has shared the Good News of God’s love with hurting children through the simplest of gifts – shoe boxes!  Filled with school supplies, toys, and personal items that are packed by caring people, these boxes help introduce children to Jesus Christ.  Local believers follow up with evangelistic programs, and many precious boys and girls later receive Jesus as their Savior.  As you pack a shoe box for a child, please pray for the boy or girl who will receive it.  Spread the word so others will get involved too.  You will be amazed to see how God can use a small gift to touch a child’s heart!  In the greater Lancaster Area 36,009 shoe boxes were collected in 2010.  “Praise God”.  It is suggested to consider using plastic shoe boxes, as they serve multiple purposes.  They are available at Wal-Mart, K-Mart & Dollar stores, usually for a dollar.  Please take something from the bin in the breezeway (beginning Oct. 2) to get started.  Then just add to it.  Collection dates will be October 30 and November 6.
